York police seek help ID'ing sex assault suspect

York Regional Police need help to identify a suspect after a young woman was sexually assaulted in Newmarket early Friday morning.

Investigators also want to speak to man who helped victim but left before police arrived

York Regional Police need help to identify a suspect after a young woman was sexually assaulted in Newmarket early Friday morning.

The woman, 18, was walking from a GO bus terminal to Crossland Gate along a pathway that runs parallel to Davis Drive shortly before 3 a.m. when she was approached by a man who forced her to the ground.

The woman suffered minor injuries in the assault and was taken to hospital.

The suspect is described as a male, who stands about five-foot-nine with a lean build, and is somewhere between 30 and 40 years of age. His face was covered.

Police are hoping to speak to a man who interrupted the assault and helped the victim but left the scene before police arrived.
