Police say Mitchell died in hospital after he was found shot at the North Kipling Community Centre, located at 2 Rowntree Rd., some time after 8 p.m.

The victim was publicly identified by police on Monday.

Police say there was a large community event going on at the time. They are asking anyone who may have information about the shooting to speak with investigators.

Saleha Nahdi, a community crisis response staffer with the city, said Mitchell was not a member of the community, nor was he "a participant of the community centre."

Const. Wendy Drummond told CBC News that the victim was known to police.
