A man in his 20s is dead after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a streetcar at Queen Street East just west of Greenwood Avenue this morning.

The man was rushed to hospital after the collision — which happened just after 6:10 a.m. — where he was pronounced dead.

Const. Hugh Smith of Traffic Services said the motorcycle was travelling eastbound when it crossed the centre line and struck a westbound streetcar.

"For whatever reason, he veered turning left into the path of the streetcar, it was struck on the left front corner," he said.

Queen East at Greenwood was closed to traffic and the 501 Queen, 502 Downtowner and 503 Kingston Road streetcars were diverted around the area.

Queen East reopened late Friday morning.
