Toronto police are looking for a car they say was seen fleeing the scene of a fatal shooting at Yorkdale Shopping Centre a year ago.

Shortly after 8 p.m., on March 30, 2013, police were called to the mall for a reported shooting.

Two men had been shot, one of whom died.

Within hours, police identified the deceased as Michael Nguyen, 23, of Toronto.

A few days later, Det. Rob North told reporters that Nguyen and the second victim had been shopping at the mall before being ambushed in the parking lot.

On Monday North provided an update on the case, and said police are looking for a silver, 2004-07 four-door Chevy Malibu Max they say was captured leaving the scene by security cameras at the mall.

Police also say they recovered a firearm at the scene of the shooting, but would not say who was in possession of it when the shots were fired. North said the gun has been forensically tested but had not been fired on the night of the shooting.

North confirmed that Nguyen's was a targeted killing.

Police also released general descriptions of three suspects who they say converged on Nguyen on the night he was killed:

  1. A man, approximately 25 years old, of mixed race (white and Asian). He is described as five foot eight inches to five foot 10 inches tall, with a medium to heavy build and short hair.

  2. A man, light skinned. Possibly of Middle Eastern descent in his 20s.

  3. A man, Asian, in his 20s. Medium height, and medium to heavy build.

North said there are reports the men who approached Nguyen were wearing predominantly black clothing and one of them had his face partially covered.

Police are asking anyone has information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers.
