Markham firefighters continue to battle a fire at a waste management facility at 14th Avenue and Rodick Road that broke out overnight.

As of 9:30 a.m., firefighters were still working to extinguish the blaze, which Markham spokesperson Alex Freeman said was at least partially fuelled by waste burning inside the facility.

The call for the fire came in at about 11 p.m., Freeman said, adding that roads around the facility, located at 300 Rodick Road, remained closed due to smoke.
