Man, woman struck and killed by freight train in Milton
Police say a man and a woman in their 40s are dead after being hit by a freight train outside Hamilton.
Halton region police Sgt. Robert Lloyd says they were struck and killed around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Milton.
Lloyd says they were struck by a westbound CP Rail train along a stretch of track near Milborough Town Line north of Derry Road. The area where they were hit is not near a crossing.
A car that belonged to the couple was found near the tracks.
Halton Deputy Police Chief Andrew Fletcher said the incident left members of the train's crew shaken up.
"Our officers have spoken to the engineer and all the staff on board," he said. "It's always a troubling time for them, they don't expect this. It's not what they look for in their line of work everyday. They're obviously quite upset."
No names have been released.
Police are investigating.
