A man was rushed to hospital on Monday evening, after he was stabbed and found outside by people who heard him calling for help.

A Toronto EMS spokesperson told CBC News that a man in his 20s was stabbed multiple times just after 9 p.m. in the Eglinton Avenue West and Nairn Avenue area.

The victim has been taken to a local trauma centre. He suffered wounds to his torso and back.

Blood stains could be seen on a sidewalk and in the snow at the scene where the victim was found, as well as what appeared to be a black jacket.

The CBC's Trevor Dunn reported that the victim was initially found very close to Eglinton Avenue West by people who heard him calling for help.

But police believe the stabbing actually happened about a block south of where the victim was found.

It is not immediately clear what led to the stabbing.

Police did not immediately have any suspects identified.
