Toronto police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal nightclub shooting that dates back to March 2000.

Derek Wayne Brown, 42, was arrested Saturday and charged with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

The charges stem from a shooting on March 4, 2000, at the Spin Cat Club at 1 Isabella St.

On that night, police responded to a call of gunshots just after 4:30 a.m. and found four victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One of them, Andrew Robotham, 32, was pronounced dead in hospital.

Robotham was a bouncer at the club.

Two other victims suffered gunshot wounds to the head. The fourth victim had cuts from flying glass.

Det. Gary Giroux said that police believe Brown had been living under an assumed name.

"We’re moving forward in an investigation of this new name, new date of birth and new life that he has assumed," Giroux said.

Brown is expected to be in court on April 7.
