Toronto police have arrested a man after another man was stabbed in the head at a downtown Toronto shelter early Tuesday.

On Wednesday police arrested Gavin Leslie, 25, after a man in his 40s was stabbed in the head while he slept at a shelter located at Sherbourne Street and Queen Street East.

The victim was rushed to hospital where he remains in serious condition.

Police say several mattresses were also set on fire in the incident.

Gavin Leslie faces eight charges, including two counts of assault with a weapon, uttering threats and arson causing damage to property.
