An 82-year-old man is facing charges after his 72-year-old wife was fatally stabbed at her home in Vaughan this weekend.

Teresa Dias was found with life-threatening injuries at around 10 p.m. Saturday at her home near Highway 7 and Pine Valley Drive. She died in hospital Sunday morning.

York Regional Police arrested her husband, Edmundo Dias, 82, at the scene and charged him with second-degree murder following her death.

Neighbours say he suffers from Alzheimer's disease.

He briefly appeared in court with a lawyer who represented him and assisted him with Portuguese translation today.

Dias was also charged with assault with a weapon. A second man was assaulted in the incident but wasn't injured.
