A handful of Mississauga soccer fields are off-limits for the time being because of the beating the turf took over the winter.

Laura Piette, the city's director of parks and forestry, told CBC News that staff have discovered eight fields that need some rehabilitation before they can be used this year.

"They're bad enough that we've closed them down in order to make sure that we can remove all the damaged turf," Piette said Thursday.

These fields could be closed for up to 12 weeks.

Mississauga has scores of athletic fields. Piette said that sports teams will be working with the city to reschedule games that would otherwise have taken place on the affected fields.
