A long-awaited Child & Youth Advocacy Centre will officially open its doors in Toronto on Tuesday, housing an array of needed support services under the same roof.

The centre is the first of its kind in Ontario. There are about 20 similar centres either in development or currently open in other parts of the country.

The Child & Youth Advocacy Centre is designed to offer all the help that a young abuse victim might need in the same location. That includes access to social workers, police officers, therapists and a nurse practitioner.

It will provide services to families in downtown Toronto and part of North York.

In the next five years, it hopes to open offices in other parts of the city if it can get the funding to do so.
