A police officer from Jamaica wanted in connection to a series of murders there has been arrested outside of Toronto.

Police say Witney Hutchinson, 28, was with involved with a group of eight fellow officers nicknamed the Jamaican Death Squad.

The group is allegedly linked to a series of murders in Jamaica.

Hutchinson has been in Canada since 2012. He was arrested Friday in Ajax by members of the Toronto police fugitive squad and members of Durham Regional Police.

Police say he came to visit family and entered the country legally.

He remains in custody pending his removal from Canada back to Jamaica.
