Homes damaged in Queen East fire
Extensive damage to three homes but only minor injuries
Residents of an east-end neighbourhood are without homes tonight after a three-alarm fire tore through houses near Queen Street East and Leslie Avenue.
The blaze on Laing Street did extensive damage to three units, say officials. Most residents made it out and were treated on the scene for minor injuries, though one dog died in the fire.
A house fire "is a tragedy anytime and it really makes people think at Christmas time," said District Chief James Green of Toronto Fire Services.
The cause is still under investigation. Firefighters say at least one of the units did not have a smoke detector.
Morning traffic, including streetcars, was diverted in both directions on Queen Street East while firefighters contained the blaze.
