The Ontario government says a seven-kilometre portion of Highway 427 will be expanded within three years.

Three extra lanes will be added between Steeles Avenue and Campus Road-Fasken Drive, with the work slated to be done by the fall of 2017.

The same project will see highway lighting improvements, repairs to eight bridges and High Occupancy Vehicle lanes established in both directions.

The government says Oakville's Dufferin Construction has been awarded the $83-million contract to complete the work.
