Highway 401 between Highway 427 and Dixon/Martin Grove Road has re-opened to traffic after a long closure caused by a fatal crash early Friday morning.
Police say a Hyundai collided with a tractor-trailer just before 3 a.m. The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released his identity.
OPP Staff Sgt. Dave Woodford said construction work along that stretch of Highway 401 may have been a factor in the collision.
There was construction in the area and I believe traffic was slowing, there was highway signs merging everybody over," he told CBC News.
The crash shut down that stretch of Highway 401 to eastbound traffic for much of the morning rush.
Just after 7 a.m., the OPP announced that all lanes of Highway 401 were re-opened to traffic.
