Gas truck rolls over in Burlington causing environmental concern
Halton police say truck was carrying 'thousands of litres of fuel'
A transport truck that rolled over in Burlington, Ont., last night have leaked fuel into a nearby creek, police say.
Crews continued to work at the site of the spill on Harvester Road, south of the QEW, this morning after police were called to the scene shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Monday.
Halton police Staff-Sgt. Brett Wilkinson said residents should avoid the area near Sheldon Creek as environment specialists continue to assess the damage.
"It seems to be a significant spill," said Wilkinson. "The tractor had a load of thousands of litres of fuel so it's undetermined how much of this fuel leaked out of the carrier and into the environment."
Wilkinson said the driver suffered minor injuries and had failed to negotiate a curve in the road.
The driver suffered minor injuries and is being treated in hospital.
Harvester Road is shut down between Appleby Line and Burloak Drive.
The Ministry of Environment has been notified of the rollover.
