Garbage truck rollover leaves man critically injured
A 60-year-old man was airlifted to a Hamilton hospital after a garbage truck rolled over on the eastbound lanes of the QEW, at Guelph Line.
The Ontario Provincial Police say they were called to the scene of the crash at 12:11 p.m., after the driver lost control and the vehicle ended up on its side.
The crash closed the two right-hand lanes of the highway at Guelph Line, along with a ramp leading to the eastbound lanes.
Police say the driver was trapped within the vehicle for about an hour.
A spokesperson for Ornge air ambulance told CBC News that the patient suffered a critical head injury.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told CBC News that police are investigating whether mechanical issues may have played a role in the crash.
