Funeral for slain law professor Dan Markel held in Toronto
A funeral was held Thursday for a Toronto-born law professor killed in Florida.
Dan Markel, 41, was shot in his Tallahassee, Fla., home on Friday, July 18. He died the next day in hospital. The Tallahassee police have called the death a homicide, but have not named any suspects yet.
The funeral took place at Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel in North York. Markel will be buried in Vaughan.
Both of Markel's parents live in Toronto. The family has asked for privacy.
Markel, a father of two, graduated from Harvard Law School and went on to be a criminal-law professor at Florida State University. He was well-regarded among his peers, who eulogized him on his website earlier this week.
