Etobicoke blackout could be 'lengthy'

A power outage in Etobicoke has left some 4,000 customers in the dark.

A power outage in Etobicoke left thousands in the dark Friday night.

Some 6,100 customers — between Highway 401 and Eglinton Avenue, and from Highway 27 to Jane Street — lost power shortly before 10 p.m. according to Toronto Hydro.

The power company blamed the blackout on a pole fire on Ronson Drive.

Power was soon restored to about 2,000 customers, but Toronto Hydro said the others could be in for a "lengthy delay."

It is the second blackout to hit Toronto this month, following an outage that affected some 120,000 customers during the Passover holiday.
