Elderly woman dies after being struck by van at King Street East and Ontario Street

A 79-year-old woman has died after being struck by a van in the King Street East and Ontario Street area Wednesday.

Police say the woman was attempting to cross King Street East at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday evening

Toronto police said they were called to the scene at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday evening, where they found a woman lying on the ground in the middle of the road, conscious but not moving. (CBC) (CBC)

A 79-year-old woman has died after being struck by a van in the King Street East and Ontario Street area Wednesday.

Police say the woman was attempting to cross King Street East at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday evening, when she was hit by a Dodge caravan heading eastbound.

Police told CBC News the woman was found lying on the ground in the road conscious but not moving. She was transported to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

The woman succumbed to those injuries in hospital Thursday.

The driver of the van, a 61-year-old man remained on the scene.

There is no word on charges at this time.
