Toronto police have identified the victim of a deadly shooting in East York on Saturday night as Mohamed Abdulkadir Ali, 28.
Police received a call about the sound of gunfire in the area of Victoria Park Avenue and Dawes Road around 9 p.m. Sunday, they said in a release.
Officers on scene said Ali was found on Meighen Avenue, suffering a serious gunshot wound. Several shell casings were also found on the ground, Sgt. David Dube said.
"We're trying to figure out exactly what happened," Dube said, adding that investigators were trying to determine if the victim was a resident of the area or just visiting.
Ali was rushed to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition but died of injuries Sunday.
Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation. There is no word yet on a suspect.
Ali is Toronto's 13th homicide victim of the year.
