Toronto's bomb squad was called to a Cabbagetown house on Tuesday after a woman found nine sticks of dynamite in her home.

Three fire trucks and the bomb squad arrived around 12:30 p.m. and closed off Sackville Street, near Parliament and Wellesley, for much of the afternoon.

The woman said she initially thought the sticks were rolls of old coins that had belonged to her late father. She had been going through a box of her father's belongings, which she recently brought home from Oakville.

"She did the right thing she called us," said Const. Danny Vega.

Police say the nine sticks were enough to blow up the entire house, if not more.

The dynamite was taken to the Leslie Spit to be detonated safely.
