Thousands of cyclists pedalled along empty Toronto highways today, enjoying the good weather and raising money for charity.

Becel Ride for Heart

Around 14,000 cyclists took to the Gardiner and the DVP on Sunday for the annual Becel Ride for Heart fundraiser. (CBC)

The Becel Heart & Stroke Ride for Heart starts out at the Exhibition Grounds and takes participants out on a route that includes portions of the Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Expressway.

That meant that parts of those major roadways were closed for much of Sunday, though both the DVP and the Gardiner were fully open again as of the late afternoon.
