Church Street open after downtown collision kills woman, 23
Police were called to Front and Church streets early Friday afternoon
A section of Church Street north of Front Street is now open after a collision at the intersection killed one woman and injured one male early Friday afternoon.
Toronto police Const. Clint Stibbe told CBC Toronto that one lane was partially blocked so police could investigate the vehicle that struck the pair. All roads in the area are now open.
Emergency responders were called to the scene shortly after 12:30 p.m.
The woman, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene, paramedics told CBC Toronto.
The male victim was taken to hospital.
The driver of the truck that struck the pair remained at the scene, Stibbe told reporters at the scene.
"It's probably the worst time of year for this situation to occur," Stibbe said.
According to Stibbe, the Ministry of Labour had been called in to investigate. The force's collision reconstruction team was also at the scene.
