Peel Regional Police have arrested a man in connection with a stabbing and an assault at Dixie Mall in Mississauga.

Police say the attacker was arrested thanks to a tip from the public.

Earlier, they had been looking for a man who fled on foot after stabbing one person and assaulting another at Dixie Mall in Mississauga at about 4 p.m.

They say the attack happened during a robbery inside a flea market at the mall's self-service row.

One victim, a middle-aged man, is in serious condition in hospital. Peel paramedics say the second victim sustained minor injuries after being assaulted. That person was treated at the scene.

One of the victims was an employee, while the other was trying to help during the altercation, say police.

Police searched the area with the help of a canine unit. The police robbery unit was also on the scene.
