Ontario Provincial Police say a crash involving numerous transport trucks has shut down the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 from Cobourg east to Grafton. Cobourg is located about 110 kilometres east of Toronto.
The OPP say the crash, which happened around 3:20 a.m., left diesel fuel spilled on the road
One report indicated at least eight tractor-trailers were involved in a chain-reaction collision. Environment ministry crews are on the scene to assess the situation during the fuel cleanup.
One person received minor injuries and was taken to hospital for observation.
Police have requested Transportation Ministry crews to salt and sand the area for the remaining traffic to proceed through safely.
Police say the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 will be closed until the early afternoon.
