Charges upgraded in fatal Kensington Market collision
Charges have been upgraded in the case of an alleged hit and run collision that left a man dead in Kensington Market earlier this month.
Toronto police say that a man was struck while waiting to get into a taxi on Dundas Street West, at Augusta Avenue, in the early hours of May 10.
The man was rushed to hospital, where he died days later. He has since been identified as Jay McGinn.
A day after McGinn was struck, police made an arrest in connection with the case.
Karen Fyfe, 31, of Oshawa, was initially charged with fail to stop causing bodily harm.
The accused was subsequently granted bail on that charge.
On Tuesday, police announced that Fyfe now faces charges of impaired driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death and fail to stop cause bodily harm resulting in death.
Fyfe is due to appear in court on those charges on June 16.
