Calgary man charged in killing of former Toronto roommate
A Calgary man has been charged in the death of a young woman whose body was found in a ditch northwest of Toronto almost two years ago.
The body of 20-year-old Kera Freeland was found in a ditch on Heart Lake Road in Caledon, Ont., on March 17, 2011. Police said her body was discovered by a jogger.
Her death was immediately considered suspicious and subsequently ruled a homicide.
Before Freeland’s body was found, she had not been seen alive for two months.
The victim had been living in an apartment on Lake Shore Boulevard in Toronto at the time she went missing.
The Ontario Provincial Police issued a news release Thursday indicating that an arrest had been made in Freeland’s death.
Police say the victim’s former roommate, Christopher Andronakos, 35, of Calgary, has been charged with second-degree murder.
Andronakos has appeared before a justice of the peace in Alberta. He will be brought back to Ontario.
The OPP say they are continuing their investigation with the help of Calgary police.
