Caiman at Reptilia zoo for now, as search begins for new home
The caiman that was scooped out of a Toronto pond yesterday is being housed at a zoo just north of the city.
It's now within a quarantine area at the Reptilia zoo in Vaughan.
Lee Parker, the facility manager, told CBC News that Reptilia "will be working with the Toronto Animal Control to find a possible home in a zoo or reputable reptile facility that can house this little one safely."
For now, Parker said the caiman "seems to have settled into his enclosure" at the zoo.
A woman spotted the caiman swimming in Catfish Pond, just west of Toronto's High Park, on the weekend.
A day later, media reports prompted the city to investigate. Within hours, the caiman was captured.
