Police are looking for a man who allegedly struck a woman on her buttocks in the parking lot of the Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket.

York Regional Police say at about 7 p.m. on Dec. 22, the man followed the 59-year-old victim through the shopping centre to her car in its southern parking lot, where he struck her buttocks and ran off towards Davis Drive. 

Surveillance video released Tuesday shows him following the woman as she walks through the mall, according to investigators. He approaches as she appears to head toward the exit, looking over his shoulder just as they both walk out of view. 

The man is described as white, between 18 and 25 years old, with a thin build. He is between five feet, five inches tall and five feet, seven inches tall and weighs between 125 and 130 pounds. At the time he was wearing a blue jacket, camouflage pants, a black leather baseball hat and running shoes. 

Investigators say the incident may be linked to other, similar assaults in Newmarket that occurred on:

  • Aug. 18, 2015, at about 5:50 p.m.
  • Sept. 8, 2015, at about 7:30 a.m.
  • Sept. 8, 2015, at about 2:30 p.m. 
  • Sept. 25, 2015, at about 9:25 a.m.
