Buffalo Bills fans call for Bon Jovi ban in wake of Toronto rumours
CBC News Community· Thu, May 22 2014 16:25:03
Buffalo Bills fans are livin’ on a prayer that their beloved NFL team stays put after speculation that rocker Jon Bon Jovi is interested in buying the team and moving it north to Toronto.
The team officially went on sale Wednesday following the death of found and owner Ralph Wilson, 95, in March.
The New Jersey rocker has been linked to a Toronto-based developer interested in purchasing a franchise and moving it to Canada's largest city.
But rumours of the team moving to Canada has inspired many fans to take up arms as it were and demand the team remain in western New York.
A group call '12th Man Thunder' formed to voice the concerns of fans during the sale of the franchise.
“The fans are fired up and standing behind any ownership team dedicated to keeping the Bills in [western New York], while Mr. Jon Bon Jovi has made it clear that he would like to purchase the team, and move it to Toronto.” A statement on the group’s website reads.
“The campaign consists of a petition drive with a full head of steam, the establishment of "Bon Jovi Free Zones"
So far, 28 business have gone along with the Bon Jovi ban and more than 3,500 people have signed the online petition, according to the group.
Our goal: 70,000 petitioners. Enough to prove a Toronto #Bills stadium will be empty of #Buffalo fans.12th Man Thunder
