A water main break in Brampton has forced the evacuation of two businesses and the apartments above them overnight.
A Brampton fire official said they received a call at around 3 a.m. Wednesday regarding water in a business on George Street, which is located near Main and Queen streets.
Crews arrived at the scene to find that there was a water main break in the basement of a restaurant, which flooded the property and the adjacent business with water.
Peel police and local firefighters evacuated the residents of the apartments above the businesses in case the extensive water damage caused any structural problems.
The fire official said the floor in one of the units has buckled due to the damage and as of 5:30 a.m., crews were still at the scene awaiting the arrival of engineers to inspect the structural integrity of the buildings.
Police closed George Street between Queen and Wellington streets for the cleanup.
Apologies- previous tweet about re-opening is an error: George is still closed at this time. City Hall pk garage can be accessed from Queen.— @PeelPoliceMedia
