A Brampton man has been charged in a double stabbing that left a woman dead and a man with life-threatening injuries.

At 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Peel Regional Police were called to a home at 179 Kingknoll Dr., in the area of Steeles Avenue West and Mavis Road.

The victims were both found suffering from stab wounds when police arrived at the scene.

"Both those victims were transported to a local hospital," Const. Thomas Ruttan told CBC News. "The female has succumbed to her injuries. The male has life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital."

Police have since identified the victims as 51-year-old Anita Summan, who was slain, and 46-year-old Gurcharan Doal, who remains in hospital. Both are from the Brampton area.

Hours later, police announced that they were looking for a Brampton suspect, 46-year-old Iqbal Singh, who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.

Singh turned himself in on Wednesday morning. Police charged him with second-degree murder and with attempted murder. The accused is due to appear in court on Thursday for a bail hearing.
