Police are investigating after a six-vehicle pileup that closed a section of Bathurst Street just north of the Gardiner Expressway overnight.

Five people were taken to hospital after the collision near Bathurst and Fort York Boulevard at about 12:30 a.m.

One person suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. The others suffered minor injuries.

Investigators are talking to witnesses and trying to determine what caused the crash, though they say alcohol does not appear to have been a factor. No charges have been laid.

Bathurst was closed for a few hours between Front Street and Fort York Boulevard.
