Five people are facing charges following an alleged home invasion and abduction in Vaughan, Ont., which resulted in police chasing a suspect vehicle and surrounding it on a busy road.
York Regional Police responded to a call late Wednesday morning regarding an alleged home invasion on Solway Ave., near Keele Street and Major Mackenzie Drive.
According to a news release, police observed a suspect vehicle leaving the home.
Police pursued the vehicle and stopped it during a "high-risk takedown" in the Wilson Avenue and Jane Street area.
Three of the suspects were arrested at that time.
A 34-year-old man who police say was assaulted in the residence where the alleged home invasion was reported, before being bound and put in the back of the vehicle, was freed.
Two other suspects fled the scene, with police catching up with one of them at Sheridan Mall.
The fifth suspect was found and arrested in the garbage chute of a nearby apartment complex.
Police say the five accused include a 24-year-old Brampton man, a 21-year-old man of no fixed address, two men from Toronto and a 17-year-old male from Vaughan.
All of the accused face charges of robbery with a firearm, kidnapping using a firearm, forcible confinement and disguise with intent.
Two of those people additionally face a charge of escape lawful custody and two are charged with assault with a weapon.
One of the accused faces a charge of mischief.
The five accused were due to appear in a Newmarket, Ont., court on Thursday.
