Two pedestrians were hit and killed in separate incidents overnight.

At 1:25 a.m. Monday a 60-year-old man died after he was struck by an SUV on Queen Street East and Power Streets, just east of Parliament Street. A second pedestrian, a 48-year-old man, was also hurt, but not seriously.

Police say the SUV left the roadway, jumped the curb and drove through a garbage can and a street sign. The two men were standing outside smoking the entrance of the Good Shepherd Ministries shelter when they were hit.

Police have not yet released the name of the man killed. Doug Robertson, who knew the victim, described him as a "great guy."

Earlier in the evening, at around 11 p.m., a 61-year-old man died after police say he was struck by a Cadillac while crossing Dawes Road at Gower Street.

Police are seeking to speak with witnesses in both deadly collisions.
