2 men in a dinghy rescued from Lake Ontario
Police use cellphone signal to locate men after strong winds push them from shore
Toronto police say two men are lucky to be alive after they were found floating in a dinghy on Lake Ontario 11 kilometres from shore.
The men, aged 21 and 22, were out paddling when strong winds pushed them from shore. They had launched the boat from Ashbridge's Bay park in the city's east end.
The pair were located just before 8 p.m.
The men didn't have any rescue equipment, but called for help using a cellphone. Police used the co-ordinates of the cellphone signal to track them down.
Neither man was injured, but both have been fined for not having life jackets on board.
Police said the small watercraft they used is not designed for a lake as large as Lake Ontario.
