Two people died in the City of Kawartha Lakes today after their vehicle was hit from behind by a pickup truck.

The Ontario Provincial Police say the collision occurred late Sunday afternoon on Highway 7, west of Barrys Road.

Police say an eastbound vehicle was preparing to make a left-hand turn when it was struck by a pickup truck coming up behind it on Highway 7.

The collision left a 73-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman dead.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to hospital.

The collision remains under investigation.

Highway 7 has been closed between Kawartha Lakes Road 46 and White Rock Road. Police expect the closure to last several hours.
