2 arrested in alleged theft from elderly couple selling kittens
Durham Regional Police have arrested two people in connection with with an alleged theft from an elderly couple selling kittens in Whitby, Ont.
A man and a woman allegedly told the couple they were interested in buying the animals, in response to an ad about the kittens the couple posted online, and were then allowed inside couple's home on July 7. That's when the couple says the woman asked to use the washroom but instead stole jewelry, cash, a purse and other personal belongings.
Doris and Bill Lane were shocked when they discovered they'd been robbed. They put the value of the theft of cash and jewellery at around $6,000.
In the past two days, police arrested a 31-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man.
The woman was charged with theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of heroin and failure to comply with probation. She is being held for a bail hearing.
The man was charged with theft over $5,000 and was released with conditions.
