The 401 remains closed eastbound near Guelph line after three tractor trailers collided. One of the drivers was killed in the early morning crash.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 east of Highway 6.

One tractor trailer lost control after being rear-ended by another tractor trailer. It went into the centre lane and back to the right lane before striking the third truck.

The truck that had lost control went up in flames but the driver was able to escape with no injuries.

The 38-year-old Brampton man driving the third truck was trapped inside his vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Eastbound Highway 401 remains closed from Highway 6 to Guelph Line.

The OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford says police are hoping to open up one eastbound lane shortly, but it will be at least noon until the whole highway is re-opened.

One other truck driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
