An investigation is underway after fire destroyed a home in Innisfil early Saturday morning.

In the afternoon a body was discovered inside the gutted remains of the home.  According to police an 82-year-old man was the only resident of the house, but they are not able to confirm the identity of the victim.

Firefighters say there was little they could do to fight the fire. The area is unserviced — without any fire hydrants — and water had to be trucked in.

The home was destroyed.

A 54-year-old man, believed to be the son of the owner, was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation after he tried to get into the burning building.

Innisfil is a community on Lake Simcoe, just south of Barrie.
