Worker killed at Eagle River mine
OPP and Ministry of Labour investigating following deadly accident on Monday
The OPP and the provincial Ministry of Labour are investigating a fatal mining accident near White River.
A worker was killed at the Wesdome-owned Eagle River gold mine on Monday when he was accidently buried under dirt from a mining extraction, or "muck pile," according to ministry spokesperson Matt Blajer.
He says the ministry dispatched an inspector after getting a call about an accident yesterday afternoon.
"A worker was buried in a muck pile. Then about an hour later we were notified by the OPP that the worker had been located and was deceased," said Blajer.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The mine is located about 70 kilometres west of Highway 17 on Paint Lake Road in Legarde Township.
