Woman charged in wake of old murder-arson case

Thunder Bay police have made a new arrest in an old case.

Thunder Bay police have made a new arrest in an old case.

In July 2009, police investigated the death of Edgar Marion after a report that a car had been found burned out in the area known as Shuniah Mines.

The car and body found inside were linked to an earlier fire at an Algoma Street address.

As a result of its investigation, police charged Leif Hobson, 22, with first degree murder, arson and indignity to a dead body. Those charges are still before the court.

Although charges were laid against Hobson, police believed more than one person was involved in the incident and the investigation continued.

Eventually, new information revealed the identity of another person involved.

On March 1, Thunder Bay police arrested 23-year-old Samantha Drake and charged her with accessory to murder after the fact, two counts of arson, and indignity to a dead body.

Staff Sergeant Derek West told CBC News that Hobson and Drake were known to each other, but wouldn't provide any further information.

West said Hobson will next appear in court on April 22. Drake was to appear in court on Monday and is in police custody.
