A new report from Statistics Canada singles out Thunder Bay for the worst homicide rate among major Canadian cities.

There were seven homicides in the Thunder Bay census metropolitan area last year.

City police said the information was released earlier this year, and Chief J.P. Levesque would not comment on it.

In 2011, Thunder Bay had four homicides and ranked fourth across the country.

Statistics Canada said the number of homicides across the country last year dropped by 10 per cent, or 540 murders. It's the lowest rate nationally in nearly four decades.
