Man in critical condition after John Street Road crash

A 21-year-old motorist injured in a collision with a front-end loader in Thunder Bay Wednesday morning is listed in critical condition in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
He was driving a minivan that police said appeared to have struck the rear of the loader.

Sergeant Glenn Porter said both vehicles have been taken to police headquarters for examination.
"And they're [going to] be looking very closely at the mechanical aspects of this," he said. "We're also looking to obtain any information from members of the public that might have either witnessed the collision or have any other relevant information."
Porter said the 61-year-old driver of the front-end loader was not hurt.
The machine is owned by a Thunder Bay contractor.
Part of John Street Road was closed as police responded to and began to investigate the accident. Emergency crews needed to use the Jaws of Life to extract the injured minivan driver.
Porter said freezing weather may have played a role in the collision.
