Two women who pleaded guilty to manslaughter were sentenced in Thunder Bay Wednesday to eight years in prison.

Michelle Morris and Joanne Vivier killed Verna Patricia Sturgeon at the Airlane Hotel in 2010.

Because of credit for time in custody, their actual time in a penitentiary will be a maximum of five years and eight months.

While handing down her sentence, Justice Joyce Pelletier described the crime as "closer to a murder than a manslaughter" and called it "serious and disturbing."
