The Canadian military has laid sexual assault charges against a former medical technician who worked at HMCS Griffon Naval Reserve in Thunder Bay.

Ex-Petty Officer second class James Wilks faces four charges of sexual assault and 10 counts of breach of trust. Military police said the case involves seven complainants in Thunder Bay and three in London, Ont.

Spokesperson Captain Karina Holder said the charges relate to medical examinations Wilks allegedly performed at HMCS Griffon and at the recruiting centre in London, which were "contary to prescribed medical procedures".

"The identity, obviously, of those victims is protected,” Holder said. “However, I can tell you that they are … serving members of the Canadian Forces — as well as what were Canadian Forces recruits at the time.”

The incidents in Thunder Bay allegedly occurred between 2002 and 2007.

Last month, a military court in London sentenced Wilks to nine months in jail for sexual assault and breach of trust involving an improper medical exam of a 17-year-old girl. He was also placed on the sex offender registry for 20 years.
