Staal brothers trade hockey sticks for golf clubs
Annual Thunder Bay charity golf tournament draws local NHL players in support of cancer centre
Hockey celebrities hit the links in Thunder Bay Thursday as they took part in a charity golf tournament.
NHL players Taylor Pyatt, Jordan Staal, Jared Staal, Marc Staal, and retired players Ryan Johnson and John Adams participated in the annual event at Whitewater Golf Club.
Money raised from the tournament will go to the Northern Cancer Fund, to help fund diagnoses, treatment, and research at the city’s Regional Cancer Centre.
One hockey celebrity joined each team of four golfers.
To date, the Freedom 55 Financial Thunder Bay Hockey Celebrity Golf Classic has raised over $230,000 for the Northern Cancer Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.
"100 per cent of those funds stay in northwestern Ontario," said Glenn Craig, president and CEO of the Health Sciences Foundation.
"Events like this tournament have a direct impact on cancer patients in our community."
