Thunder Bay police believe a series of mischief incidents and thefts in the laundry rooms of local apartment buildings are linked.

Police said there was trouble in at least half a dozen shared laundry rooms around the city last weekend, adding that similar incidents have occurred over the last few months.

Police say last weekend's laundry room incidents happened in the following locations:

  • 1800 block of East Walsh Street
  • 900 block of South Syndicate Avenue
  • 600 block of Kingsway Avenue
  • 2800 block of Redwood Avenue
  • 200 block of Banning Street

Someone has attempted to pry open coin boxes in the washers and dryers, police said.  In some cases the money was stolen; in other cases the boxes were damaged in the attempt.

Police said some of the incidents have happened in secured buildings and there has been no sign of forced entry. They are urging all tenants to be cautious about letting strangers into their apartment buildings.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call Thunder Bay police at (807) 684-1200 or Crime Stoppers at (807) 623-8477. People can also submit a confidential tip online at www.tipsubmit.com.
